As your study collects responses, the Participants tab becomes your control center. From here you can process incentive payments, remove participants who didn’t meet expectations, clean up pending invitations, and delete incomplete sessions. Keeping this tab tidy ensures your data stays clean and your participant list accurately reflects the state of your study.
Always review completed sessions before taking payment or rejection actions. Watching through each session helps you confirm it was completed in full and in good faith before you process the incentive.

Actions

Once participants have completed their interviews, process their payments promptly. Timely payment protects your reputation as a researcher and encourages future participation.
1

Go to the For Review table

Open the Participants tab and navigate to the For Review table, which lists all completed sessions awaiting payment review.
2

Select participants to pay

Check the box next to each participant you want to pay. You can select multiple participants at once to batch-process payments.
3

Click Pay Participants

A pop-up bar will appear at the bottom of the page. Click Pay Participants.
4

Choose your payment method

A confirmation dialog will ask how you’re paying:
  • Prepaid — select this if you purchased incentive credits through Strella at checkout. Strella handles disbursement automatically.
  • Manual payment — select this if you self-recruited participants and are managing payment outside of Strella (e.g., gift cards, bank transfers).
Click Confirm to finalize.
5

Verify the Completed table

Paid participants move to the Completed table. Check there to confirm each payment was processed successfully.
If a participant didn’t complete their session in good faith — for example, they gave nonsensical answers, rushed through without engaging, or clearly didn’t meet your quality bar — you can reject them. Rejection removes them from payment consideration without moving them to the Completed table.
1

Go to the Pending Review table

Open the Participants tab and navigate to the Pending Review table.
2

Open the participant's options menu

Click the three dots (⋯) next to the participant’s name to open their action menu.
3

Select Reject

Click Reject. The participant will be marked as rejected and will not receive their incentive payment.
Rejection is permanent and the participant will not be paid. Only reject participants when you have a clear quality or eligibility reason — not simply because you’ve filled your quota.
If you’ve filled your study quota and want to prevent invited participants from still booking sessions — or if a specific participant is no longer a good fit — you can uninvite them. This removes them from the Invited table and revokes their ability to schedule.
1

Go to the Invited table

Open the Participants tab and navigate to the Invited table.
2

Open the participant's options menu

Click the three dots (⋯) next to the participant’s name.
3

Select Uninvite

Click Uninvite. The participant is removed from the Invited table and can no longer book a session for this study.
Uninviting is a clean way to close off recruitment once your study is full, rather than leaving pending invitations open indefinitely.
If a participant only completed part of an interview and you’re confident they won’t return to finish it — or if the session quality is too poor to use — you can delete the session entirely. Deleting removes it from your data and frees up that slot in your study.
1

Find the session

Navigate to the Sessions or Participants view where individual session cards are displayed.
2

Open the session options menu

Hover over the session card to reveal the three dots (⋯) in the top-right corner of the card, then click it.
3

Select Delete

Click Delete. The session is permanently removed from your project.
Deleting a session is irreversible. Make sure you no longer need the recording or transcript before you delete it.
